Days 137 - 139: A Test

Enjoy this recap from our first guest blogger friend!!

Hi, friends, it's Garilicte here with The Love Train, reporting live from The Dinsmore's Hiker Haven in Baring, Washington. The last three days have been great as always, but offered some new elements, too.

The hike out of Snoqualmie Pass up to the Cat's Walk was brisk, but very scenic with the cloud line right above us, for a change. Once at elevation, the wind picked up and it started snowing or sleeting, hard to tell which. The mountains, while not high like the Sierra, sure are just as cold and craggy. That night we camped down low in the wet forest.

The next morning was slow to start. After all, it's not every day you wake up damp on the PCT. So it goes. You know, it felt good to test our mettle at least once. In the evening we climbed past Cathedral Peak, where we could see amazingly long cascading waterfalls. After a bone chilling downhill we set up shop with some mice. One even scurried across my capped head in my sleep!

Today was all business. The recent rain and weather did nothing to slow nearby wildfires, meaning all the beautiful mountains were washed out. All the better for slaying some serious uphills to make town even sweeter.

On a side note, both a bummer and a blessing, Zippy and Mountain Dog are back together after Zippy got injured. Sadly, she won't be able to finish, though with a new boot she hopes to rest up, see Mountain Dog end strong, and tackle the remainder another day.

Well, time to rest our ever more tired legs. Can't wait for Glacier Peak Wilderness and Stehekin!

Love,

G
